Working as a student trainee at CHRISTMANN + PFEIFER
Getting a taste of practice, applying theoretical knowledge, gaining experience
“I always wanted to be an architect. As long as I can remember, that was my dream career,” says Tamara. But then she adds an “actually”. She started studying architecture as planned, but realized after just two semesters: She had actually imagined things differently. Architecture is somehow too artistic, not solid enough and not structured enough. The course she enjoys the most in these two semesters... structural engineering! Obviously a sign. And so she switches to civil engineering.
By now, she is in her 7th semester at the University of Siegen - and has been putting her theoretical knowledge to practical use as a working student for some time now. In the modular construction department at CHRISTMANN + PFEIFER, she provides support two days a week on a wide range of topics. She helps with the search for subcontractors, works closely with the costing department, takes care of sending out construction applications and carries out analyses and research. And is an integral part of the team. One aspect that she particularly appreciates: “We have a great team dynamic. Everyone works very independently in their own area of responsibility. At the same time, we are in close contact and help each other. Everyone always has an open ear for questions.” Despite this team spirit, it was a bit of a surprise for her that she was even able to take part in a recent trip to the Czech Republic as a working student to find out more about production technology and processes in module construction. “It's not a given that you can go on a business trip as a working student, so I was particularly pleased about that,” says Tamara.
And does she already have plans for after her bachelor's degree? “I would like to complete a traineeship year, because I'm still open about my future field of work. In my opinion, a traineeship like this is a good opportunity to get a taste of different areas.” Sounds like a good plan. And until then, Tamara will continue to gain practical experience as a working student, applying theoretical knowledge and gaining experience.
